WHEN THE LIGHT ESCAPES
this prison, which the body makes,
the boundless soul, evacuates,
and Heaven found, repatriates.
When one day the light does fade,
and slides again, from whence 'twas made,
from pastures greyed, to golden glades,
let fluttered wings on clouds parade!
When one day the light retreats
its mortal play of life repeats.
Let shine 'pon clouds, as saints do beat
praiseful drums, and stamp their feet!
When thunders barking fades to nil,
and silence has that raging still,
when skies, by angels wings, are filled,
know dark, by light, has lost its kill.
When the hearts applaudings cease,
and death has quiet, loud in peace,
to fall deceased, like autumn leaves,
from toiled seeds, is God's release.
When to slow, the time becomes,
to wither cold, from days of sun,
to pass from old, to days of none,
know then, this battle, I have won!
When the hands of time no more
beckon, but from beyond the door
of reckoning, do call, I'll lay
with God, forever, there I'll stay.
When to clay, my bleeding heart,
does crumble grey, and fall apart,
and to the earth, again disperses,
know God shall then sure hear my verses!
