CHELMSFORD JAIL BLUES 1992

There were chancers, romancers,
grifters, and lifters,
down in the hole,
to where I had drifted.

Where musclers, and hustlers,
and dreamers, and schemers,
were all in that ground,
down deep in death's ditches.

The insane and the lame,
were all down in that drain,
where the dead, and the dying,
all together were lain.

The famed and the maimed,
the unnamed, and the framed,
all down in death's ditches,
where many were slain.

In the jail, where mail,
was slow like the snail,
who became the best friend
in the place that I gained.

In that hole where I fell,
called Chelmsford Jail,
where the vain, and the plain,
all together were chained.

In that hell in the ground,
where together was found,
the lost and the great,
all together there caged.

Down in death's ditches,
there together was lifted,
the fallen and brave,
all to be glory claimed.
