AT THE CROSSROADS

1) i went to the valley one day, where soldiers go when they're slain, maimed, blown apart, battle stained, o'er yonder hill, forest, and plain. i saw soldiers, all hero famed, who marched to their graves, the unnamed, the bold and the brave, whom glory claimed, who burnt bright till their very last flame. 2) i went to the crossroads one night, i saw the adversary, i put up a fight, he offered me gold for my flight, and a seat from the cloud tops height. i couldn't tell which way was right, when sent to the crossroads that night, so i leant to the cross, to the glorious light, and i went to the morning star bright. 3) i went on a wondrous quest, i was given a battered bronze breast, once worn on the chest, of a hero, no less, who once passed a most dangerous test.
